St. Joseph High School News

4/16/18 - 4/20/18

High School Heroes:
Hi everyone:

This week, we feature Gandalf Church and Burke Lokey as our High School Heroes in Issue #23.
Issue #23

Thank you for your 23 years of combined service to SJHS!

Guest Speakers: School Safety
Last Fri. 4/13, Berrien County Prosecutor Mike Sepic and Asst. Prosecutor Steve Pierangeli came to SJHS to address the students on school safety issues and concerns.  Topics covered included; school violence threats, juvenile court vs. adult court systems, student impact on life, and probation terms.  The information shared was very valuable to the students and staff.

Prom:

This year's prom, Starry Night Gala, will be held Saturday, April 21, from 7:00-11:00 p.m.  Juniors and seniors are invited to enjoy a night of dancing and carousel rides. Tickets are $30 per student and may be purchased at lunch.  Cash or checks will be accepted (please make checks out to St. Joseph Public Schools).  If your student plans to bring a guest who does not attend SJHS, your student must complete and submit the Prom Guest Form in order to  purchase tickets. If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Becker (tbecker@sjschools.org) or Mrs. Culver (jculver@sjschools.org).

Seniors:
Seniors, if you have received an academic scholarship from a college, an academic institution, or organization to further your post-secondary pursuits, please submit a copy of the letter or award to the guidance office by May 9th. We cannot guarantee your award will be published in the Senior Academic Award program on May 21st if we do not receive your information by May 9th.

We believe the Academic Awards program needs to focus on the academic achievements of the students (scholarships and academic achievements.) So, in order to preserve the integrity, tradition, and meaning of the program, we will be asking that department awards, service group awards, and any award that is not an academic achievement or scholarship, be awarded within those groups at their end of the year meetings or banquets.

The Average Joes competed well this weekend at the State competition. They placed 15th after qualification rounds on their field.  Competing with the 8th alliance, the Joes were eliminated in the quarterfinals after losing the rubber match against the 1st place alliance.  Their performance guaranteed enough points to compete in the FIRST World Championship in Detroit in two weeks.
