Mock Crash Simulation: (Advisory Period – TODAY)
Parents, we wanted to make you aware
of our final Advisory lesson of the school year, which will take place this
afternoon:
The Michigan State Police (MSP) Niles
Post is working with the Saint Joseph Department of Public Safety and Saint
Joseph High School to present a mock drunk/drugged driving crash on April 30th,
2018 at 1pm. The purpose of the Mock crash is to bring awareness to the dangers
of drugged and drunk driving. The crash will simulate a realistic crash and go
through the step by step process of what occurs when these crashes occur.
Students will get to see first responders arrive at the crash and begin
extricating victims, treating patients, investigating the crash, sobrieties
being performed on the driver, and handling of a mock death of a victim in the
crash. We will be assisted by Medic One Ambulance service, Starks Funeral Home,
West Michigan AirCare and other local agencies and first responders.

balanced attack finishing with 160 and 150 points respectively. Cam
Haynes and Graham Strzynski were solid scoring 130 and 110 points. The
Bears wrap up their season with a solid 21-2 record, which includes the Holland

Robotics:
The Average Joes
ended their season this weekend competing at the FIRST Robotics Championship in
Detroit. Four hundred five teams from all over the world each competed on one
of six fields in 687 qualification matches. The Joes ended qualifications on
the Archimedes field in 16th place out of 78. Joining the 4th place alliance
with Argos from Peoria, Illinois and Team Lance-a-Bot from Stevensville, they
defeated the 5th place alliance in the quarterfinals in just 2 matches. Moving
on to the semi-finals against the #1 alliance, the team was victorious. The Archimedes
Finals challenged the Joes to battle against the #2 alliance consisting of the
Michigan State and Indiana State Champions. At this point the Joes were
defeated, earning them the finalist trophy, plaque and medals. It was a
successful weekend with the highest place finish in Joes history.
It was a great weekend with the students participating in not
only robot competition, but attending classes, visiting with college
representatives, socializing with other teams and meeting companies at the innovation
fair. They represented SJ very well in their participation and behavior.
One of the amazing things about the FIRST community is the focus
on collaboration with other teams. Since we were on the same field as Team
Lance-a Bot, we shared scouting responsibilities with them. Since we made it
all the way to the finals, we had three other "friends" join us in
cheering - BOB from Zeeland, Excel from Niles and Dreadbots from Dexter. The
students have done an amazing job of developing relationships and giving the
Joes a reputation for success and gracious professionalism.
Seniors:
(Academic Awards)
Seniors, if you have received an
academic scholarship from a college, an academic institution, or organization
to further your post-secondary pursuits, please submit a copy of the letter or
award to the guidance office by May 9th. We cannot guarantee your award
will be published in the Senior Academic Award program on May 21st if
we do not receive your information by May 9th.
We believe the Academic Awards
program needs to focus on the academic achievements of the students
(scholarships and academic achievements.) So, in order to preserve the
integrity, tradition, and meaning of the program, we will be asking that
department awards, service group awards, and any award that is not an academic
achievement or scholarship, be awarded within those groups at their end of the
year meetings or banquets.
(Athletic
Awards)
Seniors – reminder to stop by and see
Mr. Guzzo or Mrs. Werdann if you have received any type of recognition or honor
for athletics over your 4 year career at SJHS for the Athletic Awards
Night. Mr. Guzzo and Mrs. Werdann want to make sure everyone gets the
recognition they deserve at awards night, so please stop by to make sure they
have all of your awards listed.
