Student News:
Please congratulate Brooke Russell who won 2nd place at Michigan State University's prestigious Richard Benvenuto High School Poetry Competition.  Brooke will read her poem, "Foresaken Words" on October 31 at the Residential College's Fall Writing Series on the MSU campus. Her poem will also be published on the Benvenuto Contest website. We'll give the link when her poem and photo are added to their page. 



Guidance Office News:
SJHS counseling department will be offering a free FAFSA completion session for seniors and their parents.  
Financial aid experts from Lake Michigan College will be available to help with FAFSA completion.

The session will be offered on Monday, October 23 from 5:30-7:30pm in the media center computer lab.

Students and their parents should bring the following:
          2016 Tax Return for both the student and parents
         All 2016 W-2 forms for both student and parents (if they did not file taxes)
          FSA ID username & password for student and a parent (if they already have created one) –     https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm

*Students and parents should also know their Social Security Number

Academic Letter Awards Program:
As a reminder, tonight is our 39th annual Academic Awards Night.  The program begins at 7:00 pm in the High School Auditorium (students should arrive and take a seat on the stage at 6:40 pm).  You may park in the West student parking lot and enter the Auditorium PAC lobby doors.  Light refreshments will be available before and after the ceremony.  Most students dress business-casual.   We hope to see you!

SJHS Men’s Tennis News:
Congratulations to the Men's Tennis Team.  Seven of the Bears eight flights got wins to secure an 11th place finish in this weekend's Division 2 State Finals.  Will Page and Ryan Okonski advanced all the way to the quarterfinals.  Great season Bears!


Academic Challenge Team News:
The Academic Challenge Team defeated the local Lions Club last week in the annual “Brain Match.”  The Lions Club has been inviting the St. Joseph High School Academic Challenge to have lunch and compete in a friendly competition since 1997.  The winner each year gets to keep the coveted Brain Trophy.  The Bears have now won the “Brain” five straight years and lead the all-time series 14-7.

The Quiz Kids are now gearing up to defend their WSJM Title as play for the Bears begins in November.  Hudson Wellin and Ryan Erickson serve as co-captains of the team.


Veteran’s Breakfast
SJHS Student Senate will be hosting a Veteran’s Breakfast on Wednesday, November 8th beginning at 8am in the Student Center at the high school. Please join St. Joseph High School students in thanking our Veterans for their service with breakfast and entertainment. Veterans, family, and friends are welcome! Please RSVP by clicking here

Key Club News:
Key Club volunteered alongside Lakeshore Key Clubbers at the Fall Kiwanis Pancake breakfast last weekend. Proceeds help fund our K-Fam service projects!
