October Is College Month: (Guidance Office)

October is College Month

#whatisYOURfutureplan?

The term College is used to refer to education beyond high school, including postsecondary certificates and academic degrees.  Watch for information regarding the college application process, financial aid, scholarships and special events to help students and parents with this process.

Many colleges are Application Free and some just in the month of October.  Check it out.

New this year is the Michigan Institutional Updates site.  This site is meant to serve as both a tool and resource for you and your student.  This site provides institutional specific information on testing policies, application details, financial aid and scholarships, academic programs, campus life, and key contacts.

Rotary News:

Attention all SJHS students with a Dream Career!

The Rotary Student Program, a career mentoring initiative, is now taking Fall Applications! Through the

program, SJHS students are given the opportunity to talk directly with an experienced professional

living the dream - BEFORE college applications, vocational training and high school graduation. Past

mentors have included a CEO of a Major Corporation, a Nuclear Physicist from NASA and a Prima Ballerina from NYC. Participants have found the program to be profoundly impactful, eye opening and

in some cases, life changing. For information, see Interact Club of SJHS Mentoring Director, Ani Ale

for more information or a SJHS Guidance Counselor for an online application. To ensure the highest

quality mentors, Rotary Student Program participation is limited to 20 SJHS students this year, so apply

early if interested (www.rotarystudentprogram.org, https://rotary.org/en/rotary-pairs-students-top-mentors).

Past participants interested in becoming a Novelist, a Global Executive, a Professional Ballerina and a Meteorologist

Key Club News:

Something new at lunch is the return of the Food Waste Cart in the student center.  As students go to

throw away their tray they place unopened packages of food or drink (i.e. bags of carrots, whole fruit,

milk and juice) in the bins on the cart.  Key Club members will return the cart to the fridge at the end of

lunch each day.

Then if students are hungry for a snack during the school day they can visit the donation fridge in the

hallway down by the Foods room.  We are working together as a school to cut down on our food waste!
