Yearbook:
Reserve your 2017-2018 yearbook SOON!
Our publisher, Herff Jones, has been sending email reminders if you've not already purchased a yearbook for this school year. Time is running out.
The yearbook covers the entire year--including graduation and spring sports--so it won't be available until the first week of school next fall. Books will be distributed then. We can only order a few extra to purchase in September.

Forms are in the office and media center, or you may order online:
Our school number is 2940.
Thank you,
The 2018 Mazenblue staff

Ren Baldwin Tech Festival:

Lunch Accounts:

Parents and Students  - Please check your lunch balances, the end of the year is upon us.  Seniors all lunch balances need to be paid by May 25, 2018.  All charging of lunches will end on May 25th.  Students must have funds in their account or money with them to purchase lunch.

Parent/Student Drop Off and Pick Up:
Parents:

Just a friendly reminder...

When dropping off or picking up your students at the front of the building or at the Lakeview Ave side, please remember to utilize the following guidelines to maximize efficiency:

Drop off and pick up at the curb only!  Please do not block parked vehicles or pull into parking spaces to drop your child off – this creates congestion for drivers and students and does not allow visitors or staff access to parking.

Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Visitor:
Former SJHS Teacher and World War II veteran Mr. Orvid Harju (94 years old) stopped by this morning.  After graduating from high school in 1942, Mr. Harju enlisted in the Marines and served for a few years during World War II.  He then graduated from Eastern Michigan and had stints of teaching in the thumb-area.  While working on his masters’ degree at the University of Michigan, Mr. Harju met former SJHS Principal Mr. MacKay, which opened the opportunity to start teaching at SJHS.  Mr. Harju taught at SJHS from 1958-1986 and remembers the first year that our current HS structure opened in 1959.  Mr. Harju was very impressed with our building today!

State Science Olympiad News:
The kids competed very well in their 23 events, despite some hiccups on the MI SO scheduling, etc.  They earned 2 medals, Mousetrap Vehicle - 7th (Eli Edlefson, Balroop Ghotra) and Write It Do It - 5th (Susie and Amy Paine), along with a 9th place in Experimental Design (Evelyn Faust, Aleena Schadler and Thomas Chen) and 13th in Hovercraft (Prakhyat Rohatgi and Balroop Ghotra).  It's been several years since the high school has won any medals at state, and there are now 60 teams competing!  SJHS improved their place to 30 this year, up from 36 last year as well, a big jump.  Michigan is a very competitive state often finishing in the top 5 nationally, so placing this high for a school our size is quite an accomplishment.  I was very proud of our team, they have worked hard since regionals, meeting every weekend except Easter!!!

Seniors:
(Academic Awards)
Seniors, if you have received an academic scholarship from a college, an academic institution, or organization to further your post-secondary pursuits, please submit a copy of the letter or award to the guidance office by May 9th. We cannot guarantee your award will be published in the Senior Academic Award program on May 21st if we do not receive your information by May 9th.

We believe the Academic Awards program needs to focus on the academic achievements of the students (scholarships and academic achievements.) So, in order to preserve the integrity, tradition, and meaning of the program, we will be asking that department awards, service group awards, and any award that is not an academic achievement or scholarship, be awarded within those groups at their end of the year meetings or banquets.

(Athletic Awards)
Seniors – reminder to stop by and see Mr. Guzzo or Mrs. Werdann if you have received any type of recognition or honor for athletics over your 4 year career at SJHS for the Athletic Awards Night.  Mr. Guzzo and Mrs. Werdann want to make sure everyone gets the recognition they deserve at awards night, so please stop by to make sure they have all of your awards listed.
