St. Joseph High School News
3/19/18 - 3/23/18
School Start Time:
Parents – Friendly reminder
we start school at 7:45am. We have seen
a recent increase in the number of tardies in the morning to school and this is
challenging and disruptive to 1st hour classes. Majority of the students are coming in and
carrying Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks. Can
you please help us get everyone here on time in the morning? We have a saying here at SJHS, “start on
time, end on time”.
Thanks
Mr. Blomgren
High School Heroes:
This week, we spotlight Brian Gnagi and Colin Uren as our High
School Heroes in Issue #21.
Thank you for your 28 years of combined service to SJPS!

Have a good week!
SJHS National Scholastic Medalists:
We are pleased to
announce that the following students From Saint Joseph High School have
earned national recognition in the Scholastic Art &
Writing Awards of 2018. Parker Johnson, Sky Stockton, Emma
Neuser and Megan Yacobozzi all have earned a Silver Medal at the
national level. These students have been identified by panels of creative
professionals as the most talented young artists and writers in the
nation. This year, nearly 320,000 works of art and writing
were submitted. Only the top 1% were recognized at the
national level. These students have been invited to attend a ceremony at
the world-famous Carnegie Hall in New York City in June.
Thanks for all of your support!
The Visual Art Crew
The afternoon of April
10 all freshman and sophomore students will be participating in St. Joseph
High School’s first Wellness Afternoon. That morning they will be taking
the PSAT. Instead of having freshmen and sophomores return to regular
classes that afternoon, we designed an afternoon that focuses on wellness.
It is comprised of five sessions: Community Service, Community Building,
Digital Detox, Anxiety + Coping Strategies, and Meditation + Yoga.
- Community Service: Your student will make a blanket for the non-profit blanket brigade that benefits hospice patients.
- Community Building: Your student will work with fellow classmates and build comradery.
- Digital Detox: Your student will learn why having a device out all the time is not healthy and strategies they can use to help reduce their time in front of a screen.
- Anxiety + Coping Strategies: Your student will learn some techniques to help reduce anxiety and stress.
- Meditation + Yoga: An instructor from YogaLife will lead students in breathing and yoga practice.
Students are asked not to bring cell
phones to Wellness Afternoon, as cell phones will not be permitted during any
of the sessions; this is to help create a safe and comfortable environment for
all the participants. Please encourage your student to dress comfortably
because some sessions require movement. Please have them bring a yoga mat
or a beach towel for the meditation and yoga session.
