SJPS Foundation:
Our 2017 SJPS Foundation scholarship applications are now online.  $45,000 in scholarships for SJHS Class of 2017 grads!  Thanks.


Early Middle College Program:
Open to current High School Sophomores.  Students who are admitted to the program will earn a college degree and/or technical certificate by taking college classes during their 11th and 12th grades of high school. They then attend Lake Michigan College full time during their 5th year of high school.

Application deadline is January 19, 2017. All information is posted on our high school counseling website. 

Information sessions are offered:
Dec. 5  Lake Michigan College Napier Campus, 6 pm
Dec. 6  Lake Michigan College Bertrand Campus, 6 pm
Dec. 12 Berrien RESA, 6 pm

Math Competition:
"In November’s Michigan Math League competition, junior Rajas Gupta was one of only 16 students in the state to earn a perfect score.  Overall, after 2 rounds of the competition, St. Joseph High School is tied for 16th place in the state.”

 
Mrs. Beam’s Art Classes:
I will be displaying artwork from Graphic Arts (1st-3rd hour) and Art 1 (4th hour) at the Citadel in Benton Harbor on Dec 9. The show is ONE NIGHT only and lasts for 3 hours. I would like to invite both my students and their parents to stop in and view the amazing work that we have done so far this year such as: chocolate bars, personalized stationery, greeting cards, retro posters, pencil drawings, colored pencil drawings, paintings, etc.

The show is Friday, December 9, 2016 --- from 6-9 pm.
The Citadel, 91 Hinkley St, Benton Harbor, MI 49022
(Located in the Arts District, near Mason Jar Cafe.)

The show will take place during the Dec 9th Art Hop event --- other galleries will also have open houses displaying their work!

Chili Cook-Off Competition:
On Friday, December 2, eight teams from St. Joseph High School competed in the 8th Annual High School Hospitality and Culinary Arts Student Summit and Cook-Off Competition at Lake Michigan College.  The teams had to make chili and cornbread using portable butane cook stoves.   There were awards given for Best Tasting Chili and Plating, and Best Portfolio.  Five schools participated including Benton Harbor, Niles, Branch Area Tech, KRESA, and St. Joseph with a total of 34 teams.
 

The St. Joseph teams brought home 7 awards:

Rotary Student Program:
St. Joseph High School Sophomore, Kaila Nichols participated in the Rotary Student Program, sharing her DREAM CAREER to go into Broadcasting.

Scheduling a meeting with WNDU News Director, CJ Beutien, Kaila was also given the opportunity to meet with News Anchor Maureen McFadden and Chief Meteorologist, Mike Hoffman, of the South Bend, Indiana TV Station, www.wndu.com. While we do not invite parents to accompany students, we invited Kaila’s Mom, Cleather Nichols, since she is helping us bring the program back to Benton Harbor High School, adding an Interact Club, which will be led by local business executive, Alloyd Blackman.




 
Band News:
Sydney Champion (alto saxophone), Emma Marchel (percussion), and Elizabeth Travis (oboe) were selected to represent St. Joseph High School at the MSBOA, District 6 All Star Band this fall.  In addition, Emma was selected as the principal percussionist of the band.  Each student was required to record an audition to be a part of the ensemble. 

The All Star Band rehearsed during the week of November 14th and performed a concert on Saturday, November 19th.  The concert included works by Samuel Hazo, Robert W. Smith, and David Shaffer.  It was conducted by Dr. Jeff Doebler, professor at Valparasio University.

Congratulations to Sydney, Emma and Elizabeth!  GO BEARS!

 
Young Life Camp Info:
Young Life camp is the best week of your life and this summer we want every student at SJHS to experience it! We're hosting a parent information session for the 2017 Young Life camp trip to Clearwater Cove on Wednesday, December 7 pm at St. Joseph High School in Room S118 . If you're interested in learning more about Young Life and this summer's trip to Clearwater Cove in Lampe, MO June 11-17 we'd love to meet you. We'll show a video about camp, talk through trip logistics and fundraising opportunities. The info session will be hosted by SJHS Team Leaders Chandlar Smith and Guy Packard. If you have any questions prior to the meeting, please contact  Chandlar Smith (chandlar.smith@gmail.com).
