Mattox Williams Fundraiser:

Hope College is having a soccer game on Oct 15 vs Olivet honoring/remembering individuals with/had cancer. In honor of the event, Hope is asking the kids to wear a purple jersey with the person's name they would like to honor on it. Seth Walters will be playing Mattox.

Seth will be playing with Mattox on the back of the jersey and donating the money to the Hope College cancer research fund.

This isn't necessarily a fundraiser, it is to honor Mattox so I thought I would mention it in case there are a group of individuals in support at SJHS

The game will be linked on the Hope Website.

It starts at 2:30 on Saturday - Oct 15th (in Holland).

Those who would like to attend can buy purple t-shirts for the event at https://give.vai.org/page/44508/event/1

National Merit Semifinalists and Commended Students:

Congratulations to National Merit Semifinalists:

James H Diamond

Niklaas C Door

Jonathan S Kwon

These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring. High school juniors entered the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of US high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.Best wishes to James, Niklaas and Jonathan, as they continue in the process.

Congratulations also goes to seniors:

Riley P Biggins

Silas M Lorenz

They are National Merit Scholarship Program commended students. They are from about 34,000 commended students throughout the nation who are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Those being named as Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success. These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation.
