Graduation News:

Class of 2020!! Graduation!! Sunday July 26th!!

Seniors and Parents - mark you calendars and begin to plan accordingly for our rescheduled commencement graduation ceremony for our graduating class of 2020.

At this point, we are unsure of the guidance and restrictions we will have in place at the state level for gatherings, yet we want to provide the opportunity to celebrate our Senior class and bring closure to their high school careers before our graduates begin to venture off in August to the next phase in their lives.

We will be planning 3 different commencement ceremony options for Sunday July 26th:

  1. Full on face to face graduation ceremony at Steve Upton Field @ Dickinson Stadium with no restrictions (What we are all hoping for!!!)

  2. A hybrid graduation with either a parade/drive option or scheduled appointment times for students and parents to arrive at Steve Upton Field @ Dickinson Stadium to walk up and individually receive their diplomas.  (Not ideal but we can make it work!!)

  3. All virtual graduation ceremony.  (Our least favorite but it will do if this is our only option)

We appreciate all the thoughts and ideas on how we can continue to support the Class of 2020 and we are looking forward to celebrating this class!  As we continue to plan, please know we will plan and coordinate Graduation with the safety of our students, families, staff, and community members as our top priority!

Best,

Mr. Blomgren and SJHS Staff!

Senior Exit Survey:

Seniors were sent a message on itsLearning last Wednesday asking them to complete the Senior Exit Survey.  Please remind your student to do this.  The survey is about post secondary plans and for those planning to attend college next year, it is especially important to complete the survey for us to be able to send final transcripts.  In addition, the data collected is used to update our School Profile.

Graduation Speeches!! (SENIORS)

Looking for some great Senior Graduation Speeches! We are holding out hope for a face-to-face graduation ceremony, but the Plan B of a virtual type of ceremony would still need to include some awesome grad speeches!

 The 2-3 minute speech should:

1. Address the entire student body experience at SJHS.

2. Be positive!

3. Avoid public jabs or bashing of school, individuals and community.

Failure to follow these guidelines may eliminate the chances of being selected.

Please email typed speeches to Mrs. Wagner by May 26; twagner@sjschools.org

We will send emails to those who submit grad speeches for a virtual try-out (your class officers and a few school faculty will make the final decisions).

SENIORS:

1.  In order to enroll in your college in the fall, you MUST request your FINAL high school transcript be sent to the college

via Parchment.com by June 1, 2020.

Select your college then the "HOLD FOR GRADES" option (see  instructions below):

Log on to Parchment.com

Enter where you want to send your transcript.

Before you place the order, select “HOLD FOR GRADES” in the drop down, NOT “send now”

(your transcript will be sent once your senior grades are stored)

2.  In addition, if you have LMC Dual Credit courses to transfer to your college,

you must request your transcript be sent from

Lake Michigan College to your final college

(log on to your LMC Wavelink account and request a transcript via their Parchment link).

Remote Learning Plan Week 5:

Students and parents!! Make sure you are connecting with your teachers and completing the weekly assignments!! We want to make sure everyone has the option of earning grades/credits for the 2nd semester of this year.  Student participation, engagement, and communications are critical during this time!!

I am including the plans once again here in the blog for all students and parents:

Yearbook and Wind-Up News:

How can YOU help the SJHS yearbook and newspaper? Both staffs are continuing to work remotely and are publishing work. They need your help, however. Thank you for your support!

To support the YEARBOOK:

  1. Reserve a copy of the 2019-2020 yearbook. Our job # is 2940. We’re still producing a book and are still taking orders. As of now, we plan to distribute in the fall of 2020. Orders due by May 29. If you’d like to sponsor a senior who cannot afford a yearbook, contact Joyce Hunter directly: jhunter@sjschools.org

  2. Purchase personal ad space in the yearbook. While we typically offer only to senior parents, we’re opening this up to ALL students this year. Consider this a way to get a personal message out to your student that will last a lifetime. Check payments need to be sent to the Business Office. Personal ads due by May 29.

  3. Submit original pictures. Our job # is 2940. Click on “Upload Photos.” Image must be a high-quality .jpeg image. These are types of pictures we need:

    • Senior athletes for spotlight stories

    • Alternative prom pictures

    • Quarantine activity pictures

    • Pictures from club events

    • Senior highlights, including ways you’re honoring your senior

  4. Follow us on Instagram (sjhsyearbook) for timely updates and requests.

To support the THE WIND-UP:

  1. Send story ideas to our email: sjhswindup@gmail.com

  2. Visit our website and comment on our stories: sjhswindup.com We’re working on the traditional “senior issue” and our annual literary magazine: both will be posted to our website instead of printed.

  3. Follow us on Instagram (sjhswindup) for timely updates and requests.
