Science Olympiad: (Congrats!!)
On Saturday, April 27th, the St. Joseph High School Science Olympiad team competed
in the state tournament at Michigan State University.  The team came in 40th out of the
60 top teams in the state.  Evelyn Faust and Thomas Chen medaled in their chemistry
lab event by taking 8th place overall out of the 60 schools present.  The team worked
very hard throughout the year. We also want to thank all the volunteers that came
forward to give their time and experience to help develop these fantastic kids.

Average Joes - Robotics Update:  (Congrats!!)
After 10 qualification matches at the Detroit World Robotics Championship, the
Average Joes ranked 2nd out of 68 teams on the Tesla field. They selected teams from
Indiana, Massachusetts, and Japan to join their alliance and compete in the playoffs.
The Joes lost in the quarterfinals after four close and well-fought matches (one being a
tie). Congratulations on a stellar season including finalist silver medals at both the
West Michigan Event and the Michigan State Championship. Go Joes! Follow the
Average Joes on Facebook.

National History State Competition: (Congrats!!)
Two of our SJHS students competed at National History Day State competition this
past Saturday in Bay City, with Lauren Konopacki bringing home top honors in her
senior individual website category and qualifying for National competition in
Washington DC., taking place in Maryland in June!  This was Lauren’s 4th year
competing and Jacklyn Cool’s second. They competed in the toughest category and
there were over 500 students from across Michigan there. The girls put in countless
hours to develop their projects on their own time. We also had two Seventh grade girls
win top honors for their group website, and one seventh grade young man qualify as an
alternate for his website! Great SJ kids doing great things!!!

Camp Hope:
Weekend summer camp opportunity June 21st - June 23rd.
High School students - when is the last time you spent a whole weekend focused on mindfulness and mentally recharging in nature?
That is exactly what Camp Hope is meant to be - lots of fun outdoor activities (like canoeing, swimming, hiking, ropes course, hayride, rock climbing wall, archery) at Warner Camp, sleeping in cabins, stargazing by the campfire and time for mindfulness (yoga, meditation, journaling, crafts, music).
Cost is $50, but scholarships are available if the cost is prohibitive.
