MME Testing Week:

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The week we return from spring break, St. Joseph High School will be administering the Michigan Merit Exam to juniors, and the PSAT to freshmen and sophomores.  Seniors will be participating in Career Day. Please put the dates below on your calendars and help your students come rested and prepared. These assessments are one measure of college readiness and one evaluation tool the state uses to determine district success.   Please encourage your student(s) to give their best effort.

Thursday, April 11, 2018
Juniors: MSTEP - Normal school day to follow.
All students will need to bring several #2 non-mechanical pencils and a calculator.  It is always a good idea to wear layers to adjust to room temperatures. NO cell phones in testing rooms.  Juniors will need to also bring a driver’s license or school id and have an approved calculator. This will be discussed in math classes.  Juniors may also bring water and/or snacks to have at break times when taking the SAT. These items MUST be left in the lobby of the competition gym; a bag w/your name has worked in the past.
Thank you for your support in making sure students are in school these days and come prepared.

Sincerely,
Greg Blomgren, Jim Berry, and Counselors

Congrats to Coach Schaffer:

Congratulations to Coach Schaffer who was selected by the Fruit Belt Officials Association to receive the Herb Quade Coaches’ Award, annually given to an area coach who exemplifies sportsmanship.

Robotics:
The Average Joes successfully competed in the West Michigan District Event this past weekend. Their robot performance landed them in the 3rd place position (out of 39 teams) after qualifications rounds. After being selected to the 1st seed alliance, the Joes made it to the finals where they were unfortunately defeated. This did, however, give them the finalist title. They were also awarded the second highest honor, the Engineering Inspiration Award. This competition should provide the Joes with an invitation to the State Competition at Saginaw Valley State University in two and a half weeks. Go JOES!

What better way to learn if a job meets your likes/dislikes than to hear about what it's really like day to day and what qualifications are needed.  We continue to have local business men & women to join us on various Thursdays to talk about their profession and how they got to where they are today.  This opportunity is available to ALL students.
After Spring Break we look forward to our time with Dr. Anjana Gupta, DDS of McShane & Gupta Dentistry.  She will talk to the students about a careers in dental field.
Also, a big thank you to Chuck Wiltsie, Air Traffic Control Supervisor with South Bend Airport for joining last week.  We had a great turn out and his presentation was very informative!

All-Night Grad Party

What is the All Night Grad Party?
Each year the St. Joseph High School senior parents plan an all-night celebration that will immediately follow commencement.  The after-graduation celebration allows students a safe environment to celebrate their graduation together.

When and where is the All Night Grad Party?
It begins right after graduation on Sunday, June 2nd.  Students will board buses at the High School following commencement.  Chartered buses will transport graduates to Chicago where they will begin their celebration at Dave and Busters with food, games and a hypnotist.  From there, there they will be transported to Navy Pier where they will board a chartered moonlight cruise with food and dancing. (Please make sure graduates dress for the weather - outerwear recommended).  Students will then be transported back to SJHS at approximately 6 am.  We strongly suggest parents pick up their graduate since they will have been up all night.

What is included in the party?
Transportation to Dave and Busters, hypnotist, Moonlight Cruise, food and fun!

What is the cost?
The cost of the all-night party is $100 per graduate.  This event is open to all 2019 SJPS graduating seniors.  Scholarships are available to students in need.
Questions?  Interested in helping out?  Check out the High School blog for more information.

PLEASE NOTE!

All graduates items will be checked before boarding the bus.  NO BACKPACKS OR CINCH SACKS PERMITTED.  Contents of belongings cannot exceed a quart size sealable bag.  Graduates may not leave any items on the bus.
