High School Heroes:

Good morning everyone:
This week, Beth Fairchild and Susan Wade are our High School Heroes!


Susan and Beth – Thank you for your combined 34 years of service to SJPS!


December Bears of the Month:
Congratulations to our December Bears of the Month – Hannah Moore and Simon Wagner! These outstanding students were selected by SJHS staff based on their character, leadership, academics, and citizenship!


Seniors:
  • Jostens - A reminder that your cap and gown and graduation products order forms need to be turned into a Josten's representative during lunch on Thursday, December 7th.  If you missed the class meeting to obtain order information materials, there are extra packets in the Guidance Office.  Please stop by to pick one up.  Is is extremely important that you don't miss this deadline.

  • Lake Michigan College will be at the St. Joe vs. Lakeshore Basketball Game at St. Joseph High School on Friday, December 8th to raffle off two $250 LMC scholarships for SJ Seniors.  Sign up in Guidance Office prior to game day.


Early Middle College - Sophomore Parents
REMINDER FOR SOPHOMORE PARENTS!
The Berrien County 5th Year Early/Middle College will be having our informational meetings beginning next week. To learn more about the unique opportunity available to sophomore students please plan on attending one of the following:
Monday December 4, 2017; Lake Michigan College-Napier Campus in the Blue Lecture Hall
Tuesday December 5, 2017; Southwestern Michigan College-Niles Campus
Monday December 11, 2017; Berrien RESA-Berrien Springs
All sessions will begin at 6:00 pm and cover the same information. Signs will be posted to help direct you to the meeting room when you arrive.

Orchestra News:
The following students were accepted into the 2018 All-State Honors Orchestra:
Kathy Zhang
Anna Vi
Chaelynn Lee
Kevin Wang (honorable mention)
This is a huge honor as over 2600 students from across the state auditioned for these ensembles. The orchestra will be rehearsing and performing in January. Please congratulate these students if you see them.


Art:

Culinary Arts:
On Friday, December 1, six teams from St. Joseph High School competed in the 9th Annual High School Hospitality and Culinary Arts Student Summit and Cook-Off Competition at Lake Michigan College.  The teams had to make chili and cornbread using portable butane cook stoves.  There were awards given for Best Tasting Chili, Plating/Tablescape, and Best Portfolio.  Four schools participated including Benton Harbor, Dowagiac, KRESA, and St. Joseph.

The St. Joseph teams brought home 9 awards:

The Netflix and Chili team took SECOND PLACE for Overall Taste!

GO BEARS!

Ski Club:
Ski Club has arrived at Saint Joseph High School. Ski Club trips will take place on Mondays in January and February. There will only be one bus, so sign up fast.
Who?: If you love to ski or snowboard this is for you.
What?: Skiing and Snowboarding.
Where?: Bittersweet Ski Resort.
When?: Monday’s in January and February from (Depart SJHS) 3pm –  (Arrive at SJHS) 9pm.
How do I get signed up?: Stop by the main office and pick up a registration packet from Mrs. Essig.
How much does it cost?: $55 for transportation and the discount card. $16 if you are interested in just a discount card.
