Emergency Remote Learning Plan:
Today marks the first day of our emergency remote learning plan for the remainder of the
school year.  Our teachers have been working hard planning, training, and collaborating to
provide opportunities for our students at SJHS in a virtual setting.  We have created a plan that
is flexible, understanding of the challenges we are currently facing, and creates options for
students. We believe our plan meets the needs of ALL or our students and families.

As a parent of two high school students and building Principal, I would recommend the
following option for all students:
  • Students - Starting today engage and participate with your classes and teachers online for the remainder of the year.
  • Students and Parents - Work towards obtaining grades as opposed to credits for all of your classes.  As you move onto the next phase of your life whether that be college, the workforce, military, etc. this will reflect as an excellent choice on your transcript.
  • Parents - Last, communicate regularly with your student and their teachers to make sure adequate progress is being made so that grades/credits can be awarded at the end of the school year for the 2nd semester.

I am sharing the instructional plans we sent out last Fri. to all of you again here.  There are two
plans, one for 9th-11th grade students and one specifically for our Seniors.

Please make sure you look over the plans and if you have any questions do not hesitate to reach
out via email or call us.
gblomgren@sjschools.org or 269-926-3204 to my voicemail.

We look forward to providing some great learning opportunities for our students for the
remainder of the year!

Best,
Mr. Blomgren

Music Department Project:
Our music department and some of our very own talented SJHS students created this awesome
virtual production of our Fight Song!!!  Very cool!!

SJHS Library Media Center Note:
We are excited to hear so many of our SJ students have been reading and enjoying the library
books they took home with them in March.  While we would love to be able to facilitate a book
exchange for students to get more reading material, we are not able to do so at this time due to
our buildings being closed.  Please visit the websites created by our teacher librarians for access
to numerous e-books and resources. We will be sharing even more possibilities soon. Finally,
please encourage your children to keep reading and to contact their teacher librarian for
assistance.  We are here to help!

Tech Fest 2020 is On!!!!
We have some good news: Tech Fest 2020 is on!  It will be a virtual event with prizes awarded
and student work honored.  The entry deadline has been extended to May 5th, and the virtual
event will take place May 20th.  Students, please enter your projects!

Projects Due May 5th
Virtual Tech Fest will be May 20th

DECA:
Congratulations to our DECA Team of Sophia Arent, Connor Bachteal and Alex Reed for placing
in Leadership and Teamwork- they earned a trip to the International Career Development
Conference in Nashville, TN April 28th-May 3rd!
However the conference was cancelled due to Covid-19.

SJHS Yearbook and Newspaper:
How can YOU help the SJHS yearbook and newspaper? Both staffs are
continuing to work remotely and are publishing work. They need your help,
however. Thank you for your support!

To support the YEARBOOK:

  1. Reserve a copy of the 2019-2020 yearbook. Our job # is 2940. We’re still producing a book and are still taking orders. As of now, we plan to distribute in the fall of 2020. Orders due by May 1. If you’d like to sponsor a senior who cannot afford a yearbook, contact Joyce Hunter directly: jhunter@sjschools.org
  2. Purchase personal ad space in the yearbook. While we typically offer only to senior parents, we’re opening this up to ALL students this year. Consider this a way to get a personal message out to your student that will last a lifetime. Personal ads due by May 1.
  3. Submit original pictures. Our job # is 2940. Click on “Upload Photos.” Image must be a high-quality .jpeg image. These are types of pictures we need:
    • Senior athletes for spotlight stories
    • Alternative prom pictures
    • Quarantine activity pictures
    • Pictures from club events
    • Senior highlights, including ways you’re honoring your senior
  4. Follow us on Instagram (sjhsyearbook) for timely updates and requests.

To support the THE WIND-UP:

  1. Send story ideas to our email: sjhswindup@gmail.com
  2. Visit our website and comment on our stories: sjhswindup.com We’re working on the traditional “senior issue” and our annual literary magazine: both will be posted to our website instead of printed.
  3. Follow us on Instagram (sjhswindup) for timely updates and requests.

Contact adviser Joyce Hunter for more information: jhunter@sjschools.org

CTE Course (New for next year):
Lakeshore High School has officially received a state-approved CTE Heating, Ventilation &
Air Conditioning (HVAC) program for the 2020-21 school year.  If any SJHS students are
interested in taking this course, please contact your high school counselor.

Thursdays until June 4th.

HOSA Team:
I am so proud of my student's performance at HOSA this year. All of my students advanced
to round two at the state competition which is impressive since there were 3000 students
competing. Lauren Konopacki was number 5 in her event for the entire state! Unfortunately,
only the top three advance to the international competition. We are all looking forward to
achieving that goal next year. Here are a few pictures.  Mrs. Knuth
