First Day of School:
Parents:
We are excited
to welcome our students back on Tuesday, September 6. During the morning,
students will report to one of four stations at 7:45 am:
Freshman:
Auditorium (Class
Meetings)
Sophomores: Competition Gym (Pictures & Schedule
Information)
Juniors: Student Center (BYOD & ItsLearning
Presentation)
Seniors: English Hallway (Student Handbook &
General School Information)
Each class will
attend every session above and the meetings will end at 11:01 am. *Please
have your student bring the Picture Ordering Packet to the Gym when preparing
for school pictures. Also, your student should return the Emergency Form
(mailed last week) to the Station #4 Teacher in the English Hallway along with
any other important forms (I.e., Free & Reduced Lunch, Supplemental
Insurance, Prescription Medications, Food Allergy Action Plans, Student
Recruitment Opt-Outs, etc).
Media Center:
We need parent
volunteers in the media center. If they are interested in volunteering once a
week from 11 -1, they can email me, Michelle Humes, Media Specialist at ahumes@sjschools.org
It's a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours and the help would be
greatly appreciated.
National Honor Society Tutoring:
NHS Tutors will be available Tuesdays and Thursdays after school in
the Media Center starting September 20th. For current NHS members there
will be a mandatory meeting on September 13th both before and after school, members only need to attend one meeting.
If you need further information please contact Ms. Nicholie at 926-3320 or nnicholie@sjschools.org.
BYOD @ SJHS:
St. Joseph
High School will be entering the second year of its BYOD (Bring Your Own
Device) program. Students are encouraged to bring a laptop computer to
school with them daily to support learning activities in the classroom.
Devices will be used on the first day of school, so it is strongly
recommended that all students come prepared with a device or plan for securing
a device to use this school year. For students who do not have a device
to bring from home, SJHS has an affordable Chromebook Rental Program. If students are looking for options to purchase a device, SJHS
has a partnership with Best Buy to offer special pricing on suitable devices
for the BYOD program. More information can be found on the SJHS BYOD webpage.
Lastly, while all SJHS classrooms are equipped with loaner devices for students
who may forget their devices or have repair issues, the classroom laptops are
not meant to be individual long-term solutions for BYOD. Please plan to
make every effort to secure a device for your child this school year. If
you have any questions or need assistance, please contact the main office and
we will do our best to help your child with this program.
Freshmen and New Student Orientation:
On Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at 6:30 p.m.,
St. Joseph High School will hold an Orientation night for all incoming 9th
grade students and any other students new to the district. All parents are highly encouraged to
attend. The Administration and
Counseling staff will provide information from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the
High School Auditorium. Students will be
able to pick up schedules at this event and have access to all areas of the
building for a walk-through to become familiarized. The teachers will also be
on campus to meet the new students.
Senior mentors will be present to assist as building guides. Passwords, locker combinations, and PIV
information (both student and parent) will be printed on the schedules. Alternative Day: If you can’t attend, you may
pick up schedules on August 31 from 1:00 – 3:30 pm.
Parents, please park in the parking lot
adjacent to the football field.
The High School “Back-To-School” Night:
Will take place on Monday, September 12,
2016. We are encouraging parents to check Power School for your student’s
schedule. Several Clubs & Activities
tables may be visited in the Student Center between 6:00 – 6:30 pm and first
hour class will begin at 6:30 pm.
Announcements for parents will take place in their child’s first hour
class. Parents will then be released for classroom visitations for the
opportunity of meeting their child’s instructors. We hope to see all parents
there for this informative evening.
