Message from Superintendent Dr. Bruce:
Dear Parents,
As you may have heard in the news, efforts are being made to help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Your child’s school plays an important role in that effort. Although there have not been any reported cases of COVID-19 in Michigan, we wanted our families to be aware that SJPS is in close communication with the Berrien County Health Department and will continue to follow their guidance and recommendations. At this time, no action has been recommended other than to encourage the following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) preventative measures:
- Frequently washing your hands with soap and water
- Covering your mouth when you sneeze or cough
- Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
- Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe
- Avoiding close contact with people who are sick
- Staying home when you are sick (children and adults)
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not recommend the use of facemasks for the general public.
To help families learn more about the virus, we have dedicated a section of our website to share CDC, MDHHS and Berrien County Health Department resources and general information. Please visit our website and look for the “Coronavirus Information for Parents” link under the scrolling announcements.
As always, the safety and well-being of our students is our top priority. We will continue monitoring the development of COVID-19 and plan accordingly in partnership with local, state, and federal health and government officials.
Thank you for entrusting us with the care of your children.
Sincerely,
Thomas S. Bruce, Ed. D.
Superintendent of Schools

Robotics: (Congratulations!!)
The Average Joes High School Robotics Team had the honor to host 39 other Michigan FIRST Robotics teams and ESPN for a District Event. The Joes showed perseverance and continuous improvement throughout the entire competition. They ended the qualifications rounds in 9th place out of 40 and were selected to be on the 4th place alliance for the playoffs. They won in quarterfinals and upset the number 1 alliance in the semifinals. The Joes were defeated in the finals and walked away with the Finalist medal and the Innovation in Control Award. Congratulations on a great robot and hosting a successful competition! Search for Robotics on the ESPN app to watch the archived broadcast of the St. Joseph Event including an interview with Superintendent Dr. Thomas Bruce. Let's cheer on the Joes as they travel to Penn High School in Indiana this weekend.
Science Olympiad: (Congratulations!!)
On Tuesday March 3rd, the St Joseph High School science olympiad team placed 1st out of 7 high school teams at the regional science olympiad tournament. The team earned 8 first place medals and 7 second place medals out of 23 different events. This earned them an invite to compete at the state science olympiad competition on April 25 at Michigan State University. The kids did a fantastic job and represented St Joseph High School well.

Senior All Night Party Information:
Parents - please use the following link to access the Senior All Night Party information. This is a well planned and organized event by some of our senior parents each year. It is a great way to send our seniors off after graduation and provide a structured, safe, and memorable event for our graduates.
I would love to see each and every senior attend this year. We usually have around 175 of our 250 or so graduates go each year. Cost is $100 before Apr. 17th. If you are able please consider sponsoring another student so we can raise enough funds to send every graduate on the trip!
