Berrien County 9th Grade Career Pathway Day: (Freshmen)

Dear 9th Grade Parent or Guardian,

We are excited for your student to attend the 9th Grade Career Pathway Day on Friday, February 22. This event is hosted at the Hanson Tech Center on the Lake Michigan College main campus.
During this activity, your student will encounter community professionals and senior students that are currently engaged in the different career pathways. No matter where your student is in their exploration of careers, it is our desire that this day will provide them with an excellent opportunity to begin or deepen their knowledge of what is available to them.

This is an opportunity for students and employers to interact in a new and creative way. Although they are not at a business or in a workplace setting, students should remember to display professional and courteous behavior and represent their school accordingly. Students should plan to dress in business casual attire (ie - no holes in jeans, no sagging pants, no midriff showing, no t-shirts with objectionable logos/graphics).

Ideally your student has spent time preparing for this day and is armed with helpful questions to ask the pathway experts that they encounter. Please be sure to follow up with them regarding their experience and encourage them as they research some of the CTE (Career and Technical Education) programming that is available to them in Berrien County.

  • TRANSPORTATION - All 9th grade students will leave our high school shortly after 8:00 am and return to SJHS by 10:00 am on SJPS busses.  If you would like your child to opt out of this opportunity, then please contact Mr. Berry by February 20. As a reminder, we have a half-day on February 22.
Feel free to contact Mr. Berry if you have any questions at jberry@sjschools.org or 926-3213.

Math Club:
This year, 16 SJHS students took part in the Michigan Mathematics Prize competition. Congratulations to Joe Paine and Nolan Rich. Out of the 134 students in Berrien County who competed, Joe had the top score, and Nolan was 3rd.

Business Bites:
Business bites will be during lunch on Thursday, February 21st in the bear den.

Peer to Peer:
27 students from the Peer to Peer class went on a fun outing to Kelley's Bowl on Valentine's Day!  The students bowled, ate snacks, and had a great time interacting with each other and the community outside of the classroom.

Peer to Peer is a for-credit class at St. Joseph High School where students are paired up with other students who may need academic or social-skills assistance.  For more information, contact Mr. Rappette at mrappette@stjoebears.com or Mrs. Campbell at ccampbell@stjoebears.com.

All-Night Grad Party

What is the All Night Grad Party?
Each year the St. Joseph High School senior parents plan an all-night celebration that will immediately follow commencement.  The after-graduation celebration allows students a safe environment to celebrate their graduation together.

When and where is the All Night Grad Party?
It begins right after graduation on Sunday, June 2nd.  Students will board buses at the High School following commencement.  Chartered buses will transport graduates to Chicago where they will begin their celebration at Dave and Busters with food, games and a hypnotist.  From there, there they will be transported to Navy Pier where they will board a chartered moonlight cruise with food and dancing. (Please make sure graduates dress for the weather - outerwear recommended).  Students will then be transported back to SJHS at approximately 6 am.  We strongly suggest parents pick up their graduate since they will have been up all night.

What is included in the party?
Transportation to Dave and Busters, hypnotist, Moonlight Cruise, food and fun!

What is the cost?
The cost of the all-night party is $100 per graduate.  This event is open to all 2019 SJPS graduating seniors.  Scholarships are available to students in need.
Questions?  Interested in helping out?  Check out the High School blog for more information.

PLEASE NOTE!

All graduates items will be checked before boarding the bus.  NO BACKPACKS OR CINCH SACKS PERMITTED.  Contents of belongings cannot exceed a quart size sealable bag.  Graduates may not leave any items on the bus.
